is an online publication of the Borshch of Art nonprofit that features original writings, criticism, and interviews exploring Ukrainian American artists and those who have Ukrainian Heritage. We accept pitches on a rolling basis.
We are accepting submissions for articles, interviews and exhibition reviews. Email your materials to team@borshchofart.org
SUBMISSIoN & EDITORIAL GUIDELINES
General Information:
- Creative Beetroots publishes reviews, criticism, reporting, interviews, and essays on topics related to American artists of Ukrainian descent, Ukrainian American artists, Ukrainian artists that temporarily live in the US, Ukrainian cultural organizations and initiatives that are happening in the United States, cultural preservation and Ukrainian cultural decolonization. Published pieces are between 1,500 to 4,000 words.
- Creative Beetroots does not publish fiction or poetry.
- Pitches no longer than 250 words are accepted on an ongoing basis. Do not send pitches as an attachment; please include them in the body of your email.
- Please do not send completed drafts or manuscripts along with your pitch. Please do not include any attachments along with your pitch.
- Include your biography (200 words or less) and a target word count, within the body of your email.
For pitches that are accepted - articles assigned
to Creative Beetroots, the following applies:
- For image requirements, please provide a quality picture not less than 500Kb and not more than 2 Mb. Please do not send images without verifying copyright restrictions and permissions.
- Please hyperlink online sources whenever possible. For in-text citations and endnotes, please use MLA Style.
- For interviews, please have audio or transcript available upon request. *Please note: interview questions do not need to be submitted beforehand.
- Drafts should prioritize clear and concise language, as well as strike a balance between a casual, yet informed tone. Use a thesaurus and avoid redundancy.
- Please review previous Creative Beetroots articles to get a sense of our editorial content and style.
- We do not italicize words in a foreign language unless for emphasis.
- Please submit drafts as a Word document.

The Borshch of Art offers modest honorarium for independent writers, graduate students, and freelance contributors. Note: there is no compensation for pitches, only articles assigned by our editorial team are eligible to receive honorariums Our rates are as follows:$100 for reviews (book, film, art exhibition, television, music, etc.), interviews, short essays (up to 1,500 words) $200 for original essays (1,500 words or more), profile writing, and long-form content (over 3,000 words) In certain cases, we can offer a modest stipend for photographers or other collaborators
